The Municipality of Plovdiv, 8 wine-cellars and a wine club got together creating a wine route and the very first wine map in Bulgaria.
“Since the beginning of IvanTotev’s authorization, the main priority of the Municipality is the development of the tourism in Plovdiv and the region, as well as offering new tourist products proven to be attractive to the visitors.” –  said the deputy mayor of Plovdiv Stephan Stoyanov, - “In recent years Plovdiv marks a sustainable development of the tourism. By developing new products, we hope to continue this tendency.”
As a center of the biggest wine region, the administration of Plovdiv, along with the society of wine-producers, united their efforts in promoting the region as a tourist destination by making a common wine route. The fist wine map is created by the Municipality of Plovdiv, along with Villa Yustina, Villa Vinifera, Todoroff Wine Cellar, Brestovitsa Winery, Starata Izba (The Old Cellar) Parvenets, Dragomir Winery Estate, Enotheka Bendida and Wine Bar Vino Culture.
Eights wine-cellars in the region are marked on the map, as well as Enotheka Bendida and Wine Bar Vino Culture which are located in the city. The map gives details about the distance and the possible transport. It also provides information about the main events, connected with wine in Plovdiv and the region.
The first edition of 30, 000 copies will be given away for free in the Tourist Information Centers and the wine cellars. A second enlarged edition is being considered.
During the following eight months two major wine events will be carried out in Plovdiv. At the end of October we expect a meeting of over 250 journalists from 30 countries, occupied with digital wine marketing. In the spring of 2016 the city will host the prestigious festival “Concours Mondial de Bruxelles”. Over 300 sommeliers from 5 continents will participate in the event. The wine map is one of the main products to be presented during the bi-annual International Meeting for Tourism, which is next going to be held in November 2015.
The statistics for the last seven months show that Plovdiv is holding tight to the first place for increasing the number of occupied beds in hotels and hostels in the country.
