Plovdiv will host the Global Wine Tourism Conference
Plovdiv will host the ninth edition of the Global Wine Tourism Conference. The initiative, organized by the Ministry of Tourism in partnership with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), aims to promote the rich history, culture, and tourism opportunities of Bulgaria. Additionally, it will position the country as a leading destination for culinary and wine tourism.
On this occasion, Minister Miroslav Borshosh and the Secretary-General of UN Tourism, Zurab Pololikashvili, visited the oldest city in Europe. They held a working meeting with Plovdiv’s mayor, Kostadin Dimitrov, during which the first steps for preparing the event were outlined.
“We chose Plovdiv to host the Ninth Global Conference of the World Tourism Organization. Bulgaria earned the recognition of the UN’s specialized agency in competition with many countries, and I am proud of this achievement. This is an exceptional opportunity to present our country as an attractive wine tourism destination to the world’s largest media and authorities in this sector,” said Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh.
Plovdiv hosts the "Defile of Young Wine" and "Wine and Gourmet" festivals. Every year, these events attract hundreds of wine enthusiasts. "Our city has proven its commitment to the development of wine tourism, and we are eager to showcase its charm on the global stage," emphasized Dimitrov.
Secretary-General Pololikashvili personally visited some of the most iconic cultural and historical sites in the city and expressed his admiration for its rich heritage and tourism potential.
