ONE DESIGN WEEK STARTS WITH THE MOST MASSIVE MAPPING EVENT IN BULGARIA
The main aspect of the seventh edition of the festival is “Digital One” and it is going to be discussed during an exhibition especially organised for the festival .
The 7-th edition of the International Festival for design and visual culture ONE DESIGN WEEK 2015, which will be held from the 19-th to the 28-th of June, is going to present various aspects of the modern design in 24 exhibitions included in the official, additional and children program. Some of the events will be: an international professional forum including lectures from world-famous designers from all around the world, the most massive 3D mapping organized in Bulgaria by now; 11 children workshops; 6 specialized presentations by Bulgarian and foreign artists; 8 multidisciplinary design workshops; designer tours in Kapana; 2 design competitions, movie projections; a market with the attendance of 40 Bulgarian designers and many other events. This year over 200 participants from 20 countries will take part in the festival. The team of Magazine “Edno(One)”, along with the trainees and the indispensable 83 volunteers, will run to over 100 people-this became clear during the special press conference in Plovdiv.
The main participants in the conference were: the Mayor of Plovdiv-Engineer Ivan Totev; Stephan Stoyanov- a deputy Major; Adriana Andreeva and Boyana Gyaurova from the team of ONE DESIGN WEEK, Rene Beekman-the curator of the main exhibition “Being Post-Digital”, Velery Kyorlinski- an executive manager of the Municipal Foundation “Plovdiv 2019” and Asen Asenov- Manager of the cultural platform of Magazine “One”.
“I am happy we are going to work together for turning the city of Plovdiv into a successful European Capital of Culture. We are pleased to carry out the most massive festival for design and visual culture in Bulgaria”- shared at the beginning of the conference Ivan Totev-the Mayor of Plovdiv.
ONE DESIGN WEEK 2015 will start on the 19-th of June at 21:30 with “Cnnctr” (Connector)- an interactive 3D 5.5 inch screenshot equipment created especially for the 7-th edition of the festival. The project is initiated by ONE DESIGN WEEK and is going to be implemented by the artists from MELFORMATOR- the artistic team of Plovdiv. The design is fulfilled with the exclusive financial support of Programista and the fruitful collaboration with the Municipality of Plovdiv. The conception is inspired by the digital interaction between the people living in the 21-st century and the extreme energy we can produce TOGETHER, being united by a common purpose.
The first day if the festival will continue with a massive party at the Concert Hall of the State Opera, the Central Square. The music will be selected by Melformator, Sirius&Methodikal (Reel Feel) and Konstantin Timoshenko (Help Me Jones). The hall will be transformed by audio-visual installation.
During the press conference the curator of the central exhibition of ONE DESIGN WEEK- “Being Post-Digital” Rene Beekman introduced the authors of the first exhibition of such significance in the country in which the work of 20 artists from 8 countries is presented. The exhibition can be seen in two galleries in Plovdiv- “Association of the Bulgarian Painters” and “City Art Gallery”, from the 19-th to the 28-th of June. The exhibition has been organized with the special support of the Embassy of Belgium, the Embassy of the USA, the embassy of Austria and the Hungarian Cultural Institute.
One of the main events of the festival was introduced, as well- the professional design forum hich is going to be carried out on Saturday, the 27-th of June at the City Hall “Boris Hristov”, Plovdiv. Traditionally, the forum ONE DESIGN WEEK gathers together renowned designers and visual artists from all around the world. No exception has been made this year-among the lecturers of the forum will be: the designer Yan Wilker from the design studio karlssonwilker, NY; the world-famous sound-artist, designer and electronic musician Yuri Suzuki; the manager of the design center of Iceland- Hatla Helgadotir; Adam Lederer from the video game company thatgamecompany, the Belgian artist Frederich de Vilde, who examinates the border between the Science, the technology and the art; the American artist and explorer Carl-Johan Rosen; as well as Karolin Offord an Elody Mondre from the Frech studio for graphic design Acmé Paris. The forum is organized with the special support of the Embassy of Belgium, the embassy of the USA and the French Cultural Institute.
During the press conference the results of the contest by ONE DESIGN WEEK and Coca-Cola- “Extend the line of happiness”, were announced. Eighty-nine young designers from all around the country have taken part. The jury of six members- some of the organizers as well as professional designers and modern artists, considered the applications including 73 individual participants and 16 authors teams. The participants vary from pupils to established artists. Nineteen projects have been voted solid to be honored with taking part in an exhibition during the festival.
