The Municipality of Plovdiv has won a project of 740 000 euro from the Financial mechanism of the European economic space. The aim of the project is to digitalize around 50 000 objects of Plovdiv's cultural and historical heritage.

Creating an electronic data base of monuments,archeological excavations,books,sculptures,items of Bulgarian people's customs and other artifacts will contribute to saving and giving a new life to the cultural heritage and encouraging diversity in culture and arts as well as saving it for the upcoming generations.That will give a public access and cultural dialogue which will emphasize on European identity and will give prominence to cultural awareness.

Digitalization will be conducted through two digital centres and through a specially created ethnographic expedition.It will be held for the first time in Plovdiv and will aim documenting cultural objects and cultural heritage of the city.

The project will take 13 months and will be held in partnership of the Municipality of Plovdiv,''Ivan Vazov'' Library , the Regional Archeological Museum,the  Municipal Institute ''Old Plovdiv'' and the City Art Gallery.

The project  has a unifying character - everyone - researchers,students,museum and scientific specialists,cultural and scientific institutions in Plovdiv, people,interested in cultural heritage,permanently unemployed youths will have the opportunity to be taught how to take digitalization. By the requirements of the project 10% of the people to be hired are planned to be of Roma origin. The project is also having the goal to get the people of Plovdiv to know their heritage better.

By the means of the same financial mechanism the reconstruction of the Roman stadium was begun in 2012.
