On December 17, at 6 pm, the exhibition "100 x 100 Plovdiv artists" by curator Kostadin Otonov will be presented in the newest exhibition space - the city Hall "2019" at 32 Gladstone Street.
The curatorial project has a five-year history, reminds the artist Vihra Grigorova: “It all started with the first exhibition of works by Plovdiv artists in the A + gallery, opened under the title “100 at 100 Plovdiv artists”. Ten of the key Plovdiv artists presented one painting with dimensions of 100 x 100 cm - each with its own style and vision for painting, subordinated to the specified format, but true to its creative credo. Thus, the encodings in the title 100 to 100 became not just centimeters, but expanded the meaning as to 100 percent, something completely authentic, true and complete - from Plovdiv. Curator Kostadin Otonov and his team saw in this symbolism not only one hundred percent connection of the authors with our city, but also gave one hundred percent guarantee that they offer one hundred percent product to the viewer."
Subsequent exhibitions gradually involve authors from all over the country in some way related to Plovdiv. And the size is already 100+. The number of artists is also approaching one hundred.
As the organizers point out, it is precisely the square 100 by 100 cm that marks the border between the small and the large format and enables both a cavalry and a monumental approach. And the idea of the curator is to open space for the artist's scope, to give the audience the rare opportunity to meet with a whole collection of works of similar sizes.
The exhibition, organized by the A + gallery, is organized with the assistance of the Plovdiv Artists Society and the Plovdiv City Art Gallery.
The project is part of the Cultural Calendar of Plovdiv Municipality for 2019.
The exhibition is with free entry and can be seen until 20 January 2020.
