The temporary exhibition "Word and Image" will take you through two different, but connected by the Christian faith periods of Bulgarian history - the Middle Ages (V - XV c.) and the Renaissance (XVIII - XIX c.). Each of them brings specific understandings of the world and of the relationship with the divine. The Orthodox faith is built upon an original symbiosis between Word and Image (God the Son). But the Image is not subordinate to the Word, but complements, interprets and enriches it.

 

This exhibition offers not just a glimpse into the past, but also an opportunity to explore humanity's quest for meaning and the presence of the divine through the ages. It invites visitors to reflect on how religious symbols and texts have served as pathways to understanding life, faith, and the transcendent in different times..
