On August 5, at 9:00 p.m., the State Opera-Stara Zagora will present its impressive production of the ballet "Don Quixote" by Ludwig Minkus on the stage of the unique Ancient Theater in Plovdiv. A lush performance, created in the spirit of the great ballet tradition, carrying the pulse of the new era. The Ballet of the State Opera-Stara Zagora was awarded in 2019 with the award of the Union of Bulgarian Music and Dance Artists and Cantus Firmus "Crystal Lyre" for the performance of the ballet "Don Quixote" in the "Ballet Art" category.
The ballet "Don Quixote" is among the highest achievements of classical dance. Arshak Galumyan, choreographer and premier soloist of the Staatsballet-Berlin, brings choreographic freshness and an original directorial reading to the production of the Staro Zagora opera, enriching the visual perception with many theatrical, even cinematic means of expression. "I have put a lot of humorous scenes in my choreography, so that the performance is not only for adults, but also interesting for children and young people. It is very important that the show is engaging for the young audience. Don Quixote is the first ballet I saw as a child and the first ballet I participated in as a student at ballet school. The audience will see and experience a celebration happening on stage. And the production itself, I hope, will become a celebration for the whole city." - says Arshak Galumyan. The designer of the decor and magnificent costumes is the Italian Salvatore Russo.
In the performance of the ballet "Don Quixote" the entire multinational ballet troupe of the Stara Zagora Opera took part under the direction of the prima ballerina, choreographer and teacher Silvia Tomova, whose achievements have been highly appreciated by professional critics, connoisseurs and spectators in all parts of Bulgaria and the world. In July of last year, the Ballet of the State Opera-Stara Zagora added to its collection of prestigious awards its first international award "The Golden Nutcracker" /International Festival of Dance and Dance, Neppi, Italy/ for its creative successes and contribution as a ballet troupe to the development of world ballet art.
Specially for the performance of the ballet "Don Quixote" at the Ancient Theater in Plovdiv, the premiere soloist of the Ballet of the Vienna State Opera, DENIS CHEREVICKO, will perform the role of Basil. On August 5, in the role of Kitri, Plovdiv residents and guests of the city will have the opportunity to applaud prima ballerina Anelia Dimitrova, Alexander Zhelev will play the role of Don Quixote, and Kalin Lubenov will play the role of Sancho Panza. The other colorful roles will be danced by Fiordi Loha /Espada/, Poppy Downing /Mercedes/, Alessia Bakin /Mistress of the Dryads/, Akari Morimatsu /Amur/, Romina Slavova /Gypsy/, Ivaylo Yanev /Gypsy/, Marcelo Molina and Carmen Demirtas / flamenco soloists/, Bogdana Sergeva and Ivalina Nikolova /couple of friends/ and others.
