Sofia Film Fest in Plovdiv

The beloved Sofia Film Fest in Plovdiv starts on March 15 and will continue until March 31 at Lucky House of Cinema with daily screenings of the latest Bulgarian and world art cinema, and traditionally for many of the screenings expect special guests to meet the audience.

Among the highlights of the program are some of the most popular festival titles of the past year. We'll see Andrew Haigh's "All of Us Strangers", Christian Petzold's "Afire", Kore-eda Hirokazu's "Monster", Aki Kaurismäki's film "Fallen Leaves" and the multi-Oscar nominee "The Holdovers" by Alexander Payne.

Viewers will also be able to see on the big screen the provocative Emerald Fennell's "Saltburn", Wim Wenders' "Perfect Days", Ethan Coen's "Drive-Away Dolls", Sofia Coppola's "Priscilla" and Nuri Bilge Ceylan's "About Dry Grasses".

The festival opens on March 15 at 6:30 p.m. with the documentary "Pulsing Hills", dedicated to the legendary Toma Sprostranov, the record holder for the longest-running radio host. The closure is with the co-production of Great Britain and Bulgaria - "Retrospect", which is directed by Steven Lewis Simpson, who lives in Plovdiv ("Neither wolf nor dog"). It was shot entirely in Plovdiv and with a cast from Plovdiv, in which we will see Yulia Yordanova - Kerana, Simeon Alexiev, Elena Kabasakalova and other popular names from the Plovdiv scene. The screening is on March 31 at 6:30 p.m., and stars from the big screen will once again meet the audience.

"Because I love bad weather" is the latest film by Yana Lekarska. On the big screen we will see Vladimir Mihaylov and Ivan Barnev. The story meets Irina, who after a long break returns to the seaside town where she spent her childhood summers and meets Boris - a childhood friend, with whom they rediscover the past. The screening is on March 21 at 6:30 p.m., and the director Yana Lekarska and the actors in the lead roles Vladimir Mihaylov and Neda Spasova are arriving as special guests.

"Megdan: Between Water and Fire" - a co-production of Serbia, Moldova and Bulgaria is directed by Todor Chapkenov. In this film, we meet Peter - a former water polo player who wants to restore the glory of his team, but for this purpose he sinks into the depths of the Balkan underworld. The screening is on March 24 at 6:00 p.m., and a special guest in Plovdiv will be the director Todor Chapkanov and the actors in the film from Serbia.

Special attention will also be paid to the music with "Balkan Black Box" - a film about the "Kotarashki" music project. The screening is on March 28 at 6:30 p.m., and the same evening, after the screening, there will be a concert by the band at the "Bee Bop Café" right next to the LUCKY Cinema House.

The Bulgarian program of the festival is completed with the co-production between Bulgaria and Turkey "Life" - a dramatic and romantic story on the streets of Istanbul, "The Trap" by Nadezhda Koseva - which will open the festival in Sofia and "Medium" - a Bulgarian-Greek film. which tells of the rapid growth through love of a teenage girl on the streets of Athens.
