"Surprisea.." is a warm, love-filled story that will help many warm up from the cold of life, believe in the good and reassure themselves that miracles do happen.
The play is considered one of the best in contemporary Russian drama of recent decades and tells the tragicomic story of an elderly woman and her daughter, amidst the everyday life of an ordinary Russian home. The mother is ill and awaiting her near end, grieving that she has not yet seen her daughter married and surrounded by children. The daughter is also tormented by this situation and wonders how to instill faith in her mother that this will happen and she will live to see her daughter married. And decides to invent hope! It is this decision that sets off a bunch of funny situations and misunderstandings, and brings the play to a touching conclusion. Thus is born a romantic comedy woven from laughter and tears, humanity and kindness, ingenuity and beautiful fantasy. Sometimes a well-presented lie brings a person to life and energizes them.
