Plovdiv is presented at the International Tourism Exhibition FITUR 2025 in Madrid, Spain

 

The Municipality of Plovdiv is presented at one of the most significant tourism formats worldwide - the International Tourism Exhibition FITUR 2025, which is being held for the 45th time in Madrid, Spain, from January 22 to 26, 2025.

FITUR 2025 is the first global forum of the year that brings together professionals and the general public. It takes place every year in the second half of January, providing an opportunity for stakeholders in the sector to discuss both the results of the past year and the key priority areas for the coming year.

FITUR is one of the largest tourism exhibitions in the world, the third largest after ITB and WTM for the global tourism business and most importantly for all Spanish-speaking markets, because in addition to Spain, it also covers the countries of Central and South America.

This year's edition features over 9,500 exhibitors, and is expected to be visited by over 153,000 professionals and 97,000 general public from 156 countries.

At a stand with an area of 150 sq. m., Destination Bulgaria participates with 19 representatives from the Bulgarian tourism industry - tour operators, travel agents and municipal administrations. Our country is advertised as a destination for year-round tourism with an emphasis on cultural, historical and natural landmarks, and modern initiatives for sustainable tourism.

In 2024, the consistent and active efforts of the Tourism Directorate of the Plovdiv Municipality to increase the interest of the Spanish market in the first Bulgarian city chosen as the European Capital of Culture led to a significant increase in tourist visits. For the period January-November 2024, the Spanish market is in 3rd place according to the indicator "Overnight stays by foreigners", with a share of 6% of the total number of overnight stays and a growth of 38% compared to the same period in 2023. According to the indicator "Number of foreigners with overnight stays in accommodation facilities", the Spanish tourists occupy 2nd place, respectively with a share of 7% of the total number of foreigners and a growth of 55% compared to the same period in 2023. This positive trend is expected to continue in 2025.

The advertising and information desk of Plovdiv is branded with the official tourist logo of the city. It was adopted at a regular meeting of the Tourism Advisory Council to the municipality last year and depicts the familiar and recognizable composition of the seven arches. The Municipality of Plovdiv, through the Tourism Directorate, participates for the second time in the International Tourism Exhibition FITUR. Visitors to the stand show increased interest in the rich cultural and historical heritage of our city and the opportunities for wine tourism in the region.

There is a photo corner at the Bulgarian stand where visitors can take pictures at the backdrop of various landscapes and landmarks from the country. Everyone receives their photo as a souvenir, also available in digital format and can share it with the hashtag #DiscoverBulgaria on social networks. Professional tastings of traditional Bulgarian delicacies and high-quality wines, including unique varieties such as Mavrud, are also held.

During the two weekends - January 25 and 26, the exhibition is also open to the general public, so travelers will receive first-hand information about new, famous or exotic destinations.
