18th edition of Sofia Film Fest is coming to PLOVDIV!
From 17 March to 2 April, we invite you to the annual Sofia Film Fest, which will offer a special selection of 26 festival hits at our favourite cinema Lucky - House of Cinema.
We start on 17 March with the Plovdiv premiere of the film directed by Orlin Milchev "The Art of Falling", awarded with the debut award at the 40th Bulgarian Feature Film Festival "Golden Rose". The Plovdiv audience will have the chance to meet the Golden Lion winner from the Venice 2022 festival - "All Beauty and Bloodshed" by Oscar winner for "Citizenfour" Laura Poitras.
"Tar" is one of the most talked-about pieces of cinema, especially in the run-up to the Academy Awards! As the film's writer and director Todd Field says, "If Cate Blanchett hadn't agreed to take on this role, there would be no movie!" The new film story "Luca" (Belgium-Italy-Netherlands-Bulgaria-Armenia), narrated by Golden Lion Future winner Jessica Woodworth (Hadacus, The King of Belgium, The Barefoot Emperor), is inspired by Dino Buzzati's masterpiece "The Tartar Desert", interpreted differently by each of its readers.
The LUX Audience Award, which is presented by the European Parliament and EFA, once again showcases the 2023 nominees across Europe - Plovdiv's choice being two of the five nominated films - Lucas Dont's Close, which was awarded the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes, 30 other awards and over 40 nominations from festivals around the world, and Carla Simon's Alcaraz. The films will be FREE admission.
The feature debut of master documentary filmmaker Tonislav Hristov, "The Good Driver" recounts some of the misadventures of taxi driver Ivan, who tries to make up for past mistakes - saving money from courses at the Golden Sands resort to return to his wife and son in Finland.
These are just some of the titles of the 18th Sofia Film Fest in Plovdiv! The programme starts on 17th March and will continue with screenings until 2nd April. Keep an eye on the event for more information about the titles and the possibility to book online.

Sofia Film Fest in Plovdiv is part of the Cultural Calendar and is held with the support of Plovdiv Municipality. The festival will take place between 17 March and 2 April. Tickets are priced at BGN 9 and BGN 8 reduced for students. A ticket for 6 screenings is 48 BGN.
