80 years since the rescue of the Bulgarian Jews from the death camps
The Jewish organization "Shalom" - Plovdiv invites Plovdiv citizens to the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the rescue of the Bulgarian Jews from the death camps. The rally-worship on the occasion of the round anniversary in Plovdiv will take place on March 9, 2023, Thursday, at 10.30 a.m. at the "Monument of Thanksgiving" on the square. "Tsar Kaloyan".
The ceremony will include an official address by the President of the Organization of Jews in Bulgaria "Shalom" Prof. Dr. Alexander Oskar and the laying of wreaths and flowers on the monument.
Bulgaria is one of the few European countries that managed to save Jews living in Bulgarian lands from deportation to Nazi concentration camps. The Bulgarian people can and should be proud of the dignified and humane behaviour of our ancestors.
"To save from certain death 50,000 people who were declared enemies of the state because of their ethnic origin, and that in the conditions of war, to preserve their honour and dignity! Our eternal city is an example of such manhood. We know these stories and the actors in them, and we will repeat them again and again. Jews do not forget stories of good. They will remember them and pass them on to the next generation. The Bulgarian Jews will always be grateful!" said the chairman of Shalom Plovdiv Eng. Svetlozar Kalev.
