The Goat's Horn is one of the most important works in Bulgarian cinema and this is its first adaptation for the theatre stage.
The story goes back to Bulgarian history during the period of the Turkish slavery - difficult times when the people lived in fear, uncertainty, deprivation and, above all, were victims of the arbitrariness of the slave-owners.
The story is strongly influenced by the images of the harsh Karaivan, who turns his daughter Maria into an instrument of revenge because of the family honour destroyed by the Turks. Raised as a boy in seclusion and secrecy, Maria is capable of killing the enemies who raped and ended the life of her innocent mother. The goat horn is her weapon with which she strikes fear and terror into the hearts of the Turks. In this violent story, the main motive that drives the action is the thirst for revenge.
Mary's nature, however, is different. Although in her father Karaivan's plans - for her to have a life of her own as a woman is forbidden, she tries to start a love that proves fatal. A goat's horn kills her lover at her father's hand.
After the death of her mother, after the fulfilled revenge, with this last death the true image of Karaivan is revealed, who still cannot survive the dreaded fate of Karaivanica.
The role of Karaivan is entrusted to the renowned theatre and film actor Philip Avramov, and that of Karaivanitsa and Maria to Yanislava Linkova. Through the means of the theatre, Haytov's immortal work comes to life for the first time on the Bulgarian stage, bringing the memory of the Bulgarian people's past to life in an unforgettable story of injustice and revenge, love and loss, honour and retribution.
