Unexhibited works from the Mexican Collection of the City Art Gallery of Plovdiv
Unexhibited graphics by famous Mexican artists are presented by the City Gallery
2022 is festive for the City Gallery of Fine Arts - Plovdiv, because it celebrates 70 years since its foundation in 1952. The dignified anniversary will be marked with a number of special exhibitions and events, about which the public will be informed in detail.
The festive events start with the exhibition "Unexhibited works from the Mexican Collection of the City Art Gallery of Plovdiv". It will be on display from February 4 to 24 in the very first building (now the Temporary Exhibition Halls at 15 Knyaz Alexander I Street), which became the home of the then state gallery seven decades ago.
The collection of graphic works by famous Mexican artists of the XX century is formed thanks to the great donation that our country received from Mexico (1981) on the occasion of 1300 years since its founding. Of the 1,150 donated works in the Permanent Exhibition "Mexican Art" created at that time, only a part of them is exhibited.
For its 70th anniversary, the City Art Gallery presents 100 graphics not shown to the public so far. Among the authors of the exhibited works are students of the famous artists Diego Rivera (1886-1957), David Siqueiros (1896-1974), Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) and others. The curator of the exhibition is Monica Romenska, who is also the curator of the "Mexican Fund" of the gallery.
