Exhibition "The apron – a symbol and apotropaic"
30 March - 31 August
Regional Ethnographic Museum - Plovdiv, 2 Dr. Stoyan Chomakov St.
You can view the exhibition “The Apron – a Symbol and an Apotropaic” at Regional ethnographic Museum - Plovdiv until the end of May 2022.
The exhibition presents prof. Julia Dilova’s vast collection of fabrics with a particular focus on the place and role of the apron in women's traditional clothing. You will find out why this element of a woman's costume is so important, why it is in different colours, what the symbols mean, its ritual functions, and its various names. We will take you to a colourful world of unique significance and history.
The aim of the exhibition is to show how important our heritage is... Be it an object, a song, a tradition, we grow up with it, carry it within us and pass it on to generations to come. It gives us a secret power, enhances our lives and allows us to learn about the old unfamiliar ages of our past. Heritage helps us shape our identity and teaches us to value history.
With this project, the Regional Ethnographic Museum – Plovdiv hopes to give more publicity to collecting and donating, as a good practice for the preservation of cultural and historical heritage.
The project includes the latest edition of the museum – the catalogue “With Love for the Woven”, which presents the rest of the wonderful collection of prof. Julia Dilova – donated to the Regional Ethnographic Museum - Plovdiv by her daughter Tsvetina Erokhina.
The exhibition and the album are part of the official program Legacy II of Plovdiv – European Capital of Culture.
