From Radek Pilař for the Children is a traveling interactive exhibition in tribute to the great Czech painter Radek Pilař who devoted much of his time and talent to the fairy tale world. His idea of the imaginary, which he embodied in his works for children, is still relevant and intriguing today. During ONE DESIGN WEEK the curator of the exhibition will also run a workshop “The artistic techniques of Radek Pilař”.
Radek Pilař is a distinguished representative of Czech fine art. He was an illustrator, painter, graphic designer, screen writer and filmmaker. In the 50s and the 60s he laid the foundations for numerous artistic genres in Czechoslovakia, including video art. The work of Radek Pilař rose to prominence mainly through his animation characters of Večerníček (short kids story on TV for good night) and Rumcajs. Yet there are many more creations of his the public is yet to discover.
The exhibition aims to present precisely that less popular part of Pilař's oeuvre. Visitors will enjoy thumbing through books on the wall, putting together magnet puzzles, drawing in fluorescent markers and moving their favorite animation characters.
The exhibition From Radek Pilař for the Children is organized by the Czech “Gallery Art for Children” center. It was created by a team of young Czech designers led by Václav Mlynář.
