Plovdiv is welcoming the participants of the International Folklore Festival for the 24th time
For the 24th time Municipality of Plovdiv is the organizer and Plovdiv – the hometown of the International Folklore Festival. The event, which turned into a tradition for Plovdiv’s cultural life, is something long-awaited not only from the locals but from the guests of the city as well.
The festival is part of the Cultural Calendar of the Municipality and every year the participants are folklore groups from all over the world. They present a lot of talent and beauty, they bring good mood and an unforgettable experience of colors and music at one of the most remarkable places in Plovdiv – the Ancient Theatre.
In this year’s edition, which will be held from 30th July till 3rd August, there will be participants from 10 different countries – Bulgaria, Georgia, Indonesia, Macedonia, Mexico, Slovenia, Ukraine, France, Holland and Czech Republic.
Every day from 5.30pm the groups will be marching from House Levski, through the main pedestrian street, to the stage at Stefan Stambolov square, where short concerts will be held. The program continues with the official night performances on the stage at the Ancient Theatre from 8pm.
The entrance is free.
Besides the concerts in Plovdiv, there will be also performances in other towns in the area. On 31st July in a town named Peshtera, the groups from Ukraine, France and Macedonia will be presenting their dances. On the 1st August, again in Peshtera, the groups from Georgia, Mexico and Indonesia will be dancing. On the 2nd August, in a town called Hisarya, there will be a concert with participants from Slovenia, Holland and Czech Republic.
The “Culture and Cultural Heritage” department of the Municipality of Plovdiv working on the festival, has also prepared a rich cultural program that includes a tour around the most important sights in Plovdiv – the European Capital of Culture for 2019.
The opening ceremony of the XXIV International Folklore Festival is on 30th July, Monday, at 8pm. at the Ancient Theatre. On the same place will also be the official closing Gala-concert – on 3rd August at 8pm.
