Plovdiv - Ancient and Eternal: History, Ethnology, Culture and Art Festival 2023

The festival "Plovdiv - Ancient and Eternal: History, Ethnology, Culture and Art" will welcome nearly 200 reenactors from Bulgaria, England, France, Germany, Croatia, Serbia, Romania and Hungary from 16 to 18 June.
The Forum will open on 16 June with a procession from the Roman Forum to the Roman Stadium. A special programme will start on the stage of the Roman Stadium at 7 pm.
The program includes performances by the Freya Group, Era Ballet, students from the National School of Performing and Screen Arts, representatives of Ancient Thrace and gladiators from the Ludus Luperc(k)alis, Ludus Traex(trax), Ludus Usus Nigrus schools, a reconstruction fight of medieval warriors from home and abroad, WMCF Knights for historical medieval combat with typical weapons and armor from the late 14th century.
Over the next two festival days, participants will recreate life in these periods in all aspects - food, drink, crafts, music, dance, archery, riding, fighting, ethnology and culture.
The festival "Plovdiv - Ancient and Eternal: History, Ethnology, Culture and Art" is organized by the Association for Historical Reenactments "Philippopolis" with the financial support of the Municipality of Plovdiv as part of the Cultural Calendar for 2023.

16.06.2023. - Friday, Central Square
18:00 - 18:30 Central Square - Gathering of the participants of the Philippopolis Forum;
18:00 to 19:00 Recital by the band Freya at the Roman Stadium;
18:30 to 19:00 Parade - from Central Post Office/ Forum of Philippopolis to Roman Stadium;
19:00 Roman Stadium - Official opening program of the festival "Plovdiv - ancient and eternal: history, ethnology, culture and art";
19:10 - "Under the Thracian Sky" - theatre and dance performance by students of the National High School for Performing and Screen Arts;
19:25 - Dance performance: ERA Ballet - "The Thracian cast" - a fragment of a dance play 19:45 - Battles between gladiators from the stoles Ludus Lupercalis, Ludus Traex, Ludus Tomitanus and fighters from Ancient Thrace;
20:00 - Combat reenactment/ Reconstruction medieval combat - groups from home and abroad;
20:30 - Bohurt Triathlon under the rules of WMCF Knights - Barrage Mercenary Troop
17.06.2023 - SATURDAY, Lauta Park
10:30 - Official opening in Lauta Park; ANTICITY CAMP - open from 10:00 to 18:00, presentations of ancient crafts, lifestyle and culture, shooting with an ancient bow, handling weapons; Fashion of the ancient world with audience participation; Vinaria Antica - the wine of the old world; Battle of Romans and barbarians; Military oath, the defeated in battle enter the Roman army; Ancient slave market; Ancient rituals;
EARLY MEDIEVAL CAMP - open from 10am to 6pm: 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., demonstrations of Early Medieval crafts - blacksmithing, basketry, leatherwork, jewelry and clothing accessories; Early Medieval food and its preparation in the open air, lifestyle and culture of the Bulgarians of this era; Horse demonstrations and archery from horseback; Presentation of Early Medieval clothing and armament, military skills and the formation of armies; Demonstration of the
Medieval fighting practices from the ground and from horseback - archery and combat skills with sabre, whip and lance; Medieval School for Young Warriors - training young men and children in archery, lance, shield and sabre handling;
"Medieval" camp - open from 10:00 to 18: Medieval cuisine and medicine - demonstrations and presentations; Historical presentation "King Kaloyan and the Knights of the Duchy of Philippopolis" - continuation;
19:00 - 20:00 - Musical performance of the group "Freya" - medieval Scandinavian music and medieval songs and dances.
18.06.2023 - SUNDAY, Lauta Park
10:00 - Open-air museum, living history, viewing of medieval camps, craft workshops and stalls; Presentation of armies in different eras, combat practices; Clothing, armour and equipment of the soldiers; Medieval school for young warriors training of youth and children in archery, spear, shield and sabre; Antique and medieval games and entertainment for young and old; Presentation of traditional dances and music for historical periods;
14:00 - Closing of the festival.
On both days of the festival, guests will have the opportunity to observe participant demonstrations, martial practices, jewelry and jewelry making, coin minting, woodworking and food preparation. They will be able to mint their own coins, shoot with a bow, try on the troops' weapons and equipment and take pictures with them, ride on horseback, see the lifestyle and traditions of our ancestors and learn about our rich cultural and historical heritage.
