On April 25, 2023 (Tuesday) at 18:00 in the Regional History Museum - Plovdiv will be opened the exhibition For him Botev was everything, dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of the great football player, coach, sportsman and teacher Nikola Shterev - Starika (1903 - 1972).
Nikola Shterev was the first Botev Plovdiv football player to be named a "legend" by the supporters and members of the sports club. He was the captain and goal scorer in the winning match against Levski Sofia on October 3, 1929, when the team won the Tsar Cup and became champions of Bulgaria for the first time. However, Nikola Shterev's services to the oldest football club in Bulgaria and Bulgarian sport extend far beyond his performance on the football pitch. He founded the Botev junior school and practically built and personally prepared the team for the great success. Starika is also an accomplished skier, skater, swimmer, gymnast, track and field athlete and hiker. He was part of the 1924 Bulgarian Olympic delegation to Paris and was honored with a letter from Baron Pierre de Coubertin himself, the founder of the modern Olympic Games. Nikola Shterev can be described as a true Renaissance figure in sport, but not only. He was an aesthete with wide cultural interests and a remarkable master carpenter.
The exhibition consists of original objects, documents and photographs from heirs and private collections. Its organizers are the Yellow and Black Foundation and the Regional History Museum - Plovdiv. After its opening on April 25, the exhibition will be open to visitors until May 5.
