Plovdiv - ancient and eternal: history, ethnology, culture and art
For the 6th year in a row, the "Philippopolis" Association for Historical Reenactments will immerse the public in the glorious past of Plovdiv with a series of reenactments and demonstrations from June 14 to 16. The goal is to create an impressive and unforgettable experience for Plovdiv residents and guests of the city, and for Plovdiv to establish itself as the host of a cultural and historical forum on a European scale.
The festival "Plovdiv - ancient and eternal: history, ethnology, culture and art" is financed by the Municipality of Plovdiv and is part of the Cultural Calendar of the city for 2024. The large-scale and spectacular event will welcome nearly 200 reconstructionists from Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Russia and Ukraine.
The Forum will be opened on June 14 with a procession from the Roman Forum to the Roman Stadium. A special program will start on the stage of the Roman Stadium at 19:00. On June 15 and 16, according to tradition, "Lauta" Park will become the arena of our ancient ancestors from Antiquity and the Middle Ages. Participants will recreate life in these periods in all aspects - food, drink, crafts, music, dance, archery, horse riding, battles, ethnology and culture.
"Our ambition is to attract a diverse audience on a national and international scale, which will have a beneficial effect on tourism and the economy of Plovdiv. By reviving the eternal Philippopolis, we will confirm the position of Plovdiv as a leading cultural center, the first Bulgarian city to be the European Capital of Culture in 2019 and the winner of the 2022 title of "Best Tourist Destination in Europe", the organizers say.
