In the footsteps of Strossmayer
Gallery "Kapana" at the City Art Gallery - Plovdiv will present contemporary Croatian art on May 21 at 6:00 p.m.
On the initiative of the Society of the Bulgarian Community in the Republic of Croatia with Chairman Rashko Ivanov will be a guest at the City Art Gallery – Plovdiv three established artists from Zagreb. Between May 21 and June 9, 2024, on both floors in "Kapana" gallery will present the Contemporary Croatian Art exhibition "On the path of Strossmeier" with curator Milan Bešlić. He has chosen paintings and digital drawings by famous Zagreb artists: Tomislav Buntak, Maya Rozman and Josip Ivanovich. In Bulgaria partners Croatian-Bulgarian cultural society "Stepan Yurinich" with the chairman Eng. Rumen Boyadzhiev.
Tomislav Buntak was born in 1971 in Zagreb, where he graduated The Academy of Fine Arts in 1997, in the class of Prof. Miroslav Shutey. He is a professor and deputy dean of the Academy of Fine Arts. It's a riot one of the most famous contemporary Croatian artists with an emphasis on drawing and the graph. He has exhibited his paintings in numerous solo and group exhibitions. He is the chairman of the Croatian Society of Artists. Before the Plovdiv public, he presented drawings and paintings with Greek motifs mythology and Christian heritage, landscape painting from European destinations, motifs from everyday life painted in the period 2005 to 2023. The artistic works are 140x180 cm and 160x200 cm in size and clearly show the stylistic characteristics of the author by which he is recognized and praised by art critics.
Josip Ivanovich was born in 1961 in the city of Sarajevo, where graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 1988. He creates remarkable works in the field of drawing, graphics, painting, theater scenography. He is the author of sculptures made of glass, metal, bronze, wood. Some of these monumental forms are exhibited in public places. He organized more than 50 solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions. It is a member of the Croatian Society of Artists. Lives and works in Dubrovnik and Pelešac. His paintings from the last cycle "Autići" ("Cars"), on which he begins to works in 2011, are a big change in his creativity, which was high critically acclaimed. The artist problematizes the great and universal theme of urban everyday life, which is often overloaded with environmental problems. The urban one landscape is recognizable throughout the world as a type of civilization precisely because the numerous problems with the same characteristics that we find in the paintings of Josip Ivanovich. In the exhibition at the "Trap" gallery, the artist presents more than 12 canvases made in acrylic technique with dimensions 120x150 cm and 155x200 cm.
Maya Rojman was born in 1981 in Zagreb. She graduated from the Academy of of Fine Arts in 2006, where he is now Professor and Associate Dean of the learning activity. Through her numerous and intriguing solo exhibitions, she has profiled herself as a universal artist who expresses herself in traditional and contemporary media: drawing, graphics, painting and performance. Her works most often originate from everyday motives and situations that she skilfully and inventively designs in various artistic techniques and works of art with strong personal connotations in which the author's determination is revealed. With a selection of works created in the last three years, from 2020 to 2023, Maya Rojman shows her authorial traits in various artistic discourses which they reveal her as an artist with a creative charge and an inquisitive spirit to be also recognized in the Bulgarian creative environment for his specific artistic expression.
