Rise of writing - a highlight of the International Mother Language Day events
With a series of initiatives, the Bulgarian-Turkish Literary Club celebrates February 21 and shows what the DNA of the graphic word is
"The rise of writing" is the motto that the Bulgarian-Turkish Literary Club in Plovdiv chose to mark the International Mother Language Day, celebrated annually on February 21. This year the events will take place over two consecutive days.
On February 20, at 2 p.m., a round table dedicated to the main topic - "The Rise of Writing" will be held in the "Ivan Vazov" National Library. Scientists from BAS, SU "St. Kliment Ohridski", University of Library Science and Information Technologies and Shumen University. Immediately following, the Strangers exhibit will open in the library's Art Gallery lobby. The traveling photo-documentary narrative presents photographic and archival materials, the work of academic researchers, some field research and family photographs.
On February 21, at 5 p.m., artist-researcher Antonia Duende will open an exhibition "Glagolic Traces" in the gallery of the Municipal Council. In addition to the distinctive features of the graphic representation, the author will share about the sacredness and energy of this ancient script.
On the occasion of the International Mother Language Day, the organizers of the event had announced a contest "Bulgarian alphabet - Cyrillic" at the Tsanko Lavrenov National University of Applied Sciences. Over 30 works created by the young talents will be arranged in an exhibition.
The guests of the Mother Language Day will be able to participate in attractive calligraphy workshops - Cyrillic and Latin, Japanese shodo, Islamic hat or try to become masters of ebru ( painting on water ) . Their mentors will be the artist Panayot Panayotov, Victoria Alexieva, Zafer Gunal, Nesrin Myumyun and Sinem Kyungeryu.
From 18:00, again in the lobby of the Municipal Council, the "Plovdiv Writes" holiday event begins. The representatives of the many languages spoken in the thousand-year-old Plovdiv will write an excerpt from the work of one of the most popular and beloved storytellers not only in Germany, but throughout the world - Brothers Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm. 16 copies of their "Children's and Home Tales" with 86 stories, with notes and comments have been declared by UNESCO as part of the documentary heritage of humanity.
The Club of Consuls in Plovdiv will also participate in the event with messages to the participants. One of the highlights of the evening will be the screening of the documentary film of the Bulgarian-Turkish Literary Club "Language as DNA", which shows the attitude of the Georgian people to their writing, which is also one of the oldest in the world. A symbol is the Alphabet Tower, on which, in the form of a DNA spiral, the 33 characters of the Georgian alphabet are depicted.
The events on both days are part of the Cultural Calendar of the Municipality of Plovdiv.
