On 1 June we celebrate International Children's Day. The holiday traces its origins to the World Conference on Child Health held in Geneva in 1925. The idea of celebrating this day came in 1925, when the Chinese Consul General in San Francisco gathered some Chinese orphan children and took them to the Dragon Boat Festival (a Chinese festival dating back to antiquity and associated with the vernal equinox). Later, his initiative was continued, with an international conference on children's health being held independently of the charity event in the USA and in Europe. In 1949, the day was officially declared International Children's Day. And in 1950, June 1 was celebrated simultaneously in 51 countries around the world for the first time.

As every year, there will be many events in Plovdiv dedicated to children and children's smile. The organizers are the Municipality of Plovdiv, the Department of Culture, Archaeology and Cultural Heritage and the Directorate of Sports and Youth Activities, the Ancient Plovdiv Municipal Institute, the Trakia Ensemble, the Ivan Vazov National Library, the Regional Ethnographic Museum, the Association for Social, Health and Legal Assistance and the Mountain-Applied Sports Club - Plovdiv, the Joint Special Operations Command and the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior - Plovdiv.
