Exhibition "The Forgotten Medicine or the Magic of Bulgarian Herbs"
The project "The Forgotten Medicine - Cura Bulgara or the Magic of Bulgarian Herbs" is dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the death of the folk healer Ivan Raev and is realized by the Museum of Medicine at the Medical University - Plovdiv in partnership with the Municipality of Plovdiv and the Municipal Institute "Ancient Plovdiv".
From June 5 to June 16, 2023 in the Bishop's Basilica of Philippopolis, residents and guests of the city will be able to view an exhibition of original botanical drawings of Bulgarian medicinal plants from the Museum's collection, with a special emphasis on artifacts related to the life and work of Ivan Raev.
At the opening on June 5, the public will enjoy an interactive compilation of the exhibition, educational lectures, musical performances and a tasting of medicinal herbal teas.
In the unique atmosphere of the Bishop's Basilica, the Veselye Academic Folk Song Choir and the Medik Folk Dance Ensemble will perform folk songs and dances about herbs and flowers, and faculty and students from the Faculty of Pharmacy will prepare various types of tea for the audience to taste.
The project is funded by Plovdiv Municipality and is part of the city's Cultural Calendar for 2023. It aims to promote folk medicine, which is part of the intangible cultural heritage of Plovdiv and the region, enriching modern society with forgotten national healing traditions.
