Professor Hristo Pimpyrev and Iglika Trifonova present the biographical book "The Antarctic Hitchhiker".

The event is on 18 May /Thursday/ at 18:00 in the Planetarium of the Regional Museum of Natural History - Plovdiv.

Most Bulgarians have heard the name of Hristo Pimpyrev and remember the smiling professor from the TV screen. They know about the expeditions and about our base in Antarctica, about the difficulties that our polar explorers face and about the successes they achieve on the Ice Continent every year. But who is the man behind the big smile? How has he managed to turn his personal dream into state policy and create a positive image of Bulgaria around the world for decades? What motivates and inspires him and gives him the strength to go forward?

The answers to these questions can be found in the deluxe edition published on the occasion of the professor's 70th anniversary. Hristo Pimpirev and Iglika Trifonova have created not just a biographical but a true adventure book - with vivid descriptions not only of Antarctica, but of the journey there in general, as well as with Hristo Pimpirev's invaluable impressions, memories and assessments of the first expeditions 30 years ago and today. The feeling that this biography was written on the road, on a covenant, in the hold of a corba or in the white wilderness of Antarctica, accompanies the reader from the first to the last page and makes him feel a traveler and part of the team of the most charismatic and always smiling scientist.
