Rock opera "Esmeralda - St. Mary of Paris"
On April 4, at 19.00, the Stara Zagora State Opera will present for the first time in Plovdiv on the stage of the Boris Hristov House of Culture its impressive production of the rock opera "Esmeralda-St. Mary of Paris". The author of the exceptional music is Riccardo Cochante, inspired by the great work of the same name by Victor Hugo. The orchestration for large symphony orchestra and rock band is by Ludmil Gorchev. The libretto was written by Luc Plamondon. The novel is Victor Hugo's most famous work, one of the most read books in France, translated into dozens of languages.
In addition to numerous screen adaptations, ballets and musicals have been created based on the novel. Hugo himself thought that The Virgin of Paris could serve as the basis for an opera and even wrote the libretto. Audiences will see Michaela Fileva as Esmeralda, Boris Taskov as Quasimodo, Nikolai Motov as Gringoire, and Marin Rusinov as Frollo. Bogomil Spirov /Fiv/, Gergana Nikolaeva /Flior de Liz/, Alexander Panayotov /Clopin/, orchestra, rock band, choir, ballet, children from the Children's and Youth Opera and Ballet Studio of the State Opera-Stara Zagora, representatives of the Pre-Bulgarian Survival School "Baga-Tur" will also take part. The director of the performance is Violeta Gorcheva, the conductor is Vladimir Boshnakov, the choreographer is the world-famous Mario Piazza, the author of the scenography and costumes is Denis Ivanov, the choirmaster is Mladen Stanev, the artistic translation is by the poet Yordan Peev.
