DIALOGUES WITH DIMITAR SHOPOV AND GAVAZOV

L’union Art Gallery presents for the first time an exhibition of its collection of works by the visual artist Dimitar Shopov, which is a result of their ten years of collaboration.
In the exhibition "Dialogues with Dimitar Shopov and Gavazov", the curator Pavlina Marinova includes about 100 selected works, some of which have not been shown before. Extremely different in format and medium, they reveal the artist's multifaceted works created in the period 2012-2022.
In the rich collection the audience will have the opportunity to see paintings, drawings and objects that are part of Shopov's three main creative projects: "Gavazov", "Novo selo" and "3D Dogs".
L’union de Paris Art Gallery has been collecting and exhibiting Milosh Gavazov's works almost since his discovery and popularization among the general public. "Gavazov the Artist and His Story" is a book album, published in 2012, dedicated to the artist, with which Dimitar Shopov won the literary award "South Spring" for prose. The appearance of Milosh Gavazov's monograph is a long-awaited moment in the history of Bulgarian visual arts, aimed at compensating for the unfulfilled Bulgarian avant-garde.
In the same comic way, Shopov examines a cultural phenomenon - the Museum of Creation "Novo Selo", located in the vicinity of the village of Novo Selo. The works from this period are part of the making of Dimitar Shopov's film "Novo selo".
The central place is occupied by the works from the "3d Dogs" series dedicated to childhood. Working with familiar images from our past, the car series is reminiscent of the Turbo chewing gums, popular among young people in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when the pictures wrapping the chewing gums cultivated love for cars and passion for collecting them. As an important part of our daily life, Shopov takes a seductive look at the future of the car and its technological development. The new digital paintings, developed in 2022 - the main highlight of the exhibition, give us the opportunity to take a look at the labyrinth of the still untold work.
"Dialogues with Dimitar Shopov and Gavazov" traces the relationship between the artist's different creative periods seen from a new angle, as well as his aspirations to show the modern way of life, the search for mental balance in modern society and in our 21st century, called by many people "a century of depressions".
