After the official presentation in September of the exhibition and the bilingual album "Art and Public Space: monumental-decorative painting projects by Plovdiv artists from the collection of the Plovdiv National Library" at the Ivan Vazov National Library, today it is a guest in the Boris Hristov House of Culture, foyer, floor 1.
It should be recalled that in 2020, the "Ivan Vazov" National Library - Plovdiv won a project under the "Heritage" program of the "Plovdiv 2019" Foundation, the realization of which led to this valuable for our city and for Bulgarian art bilingual album, the traveling exhibition, as well as a website with city itineraries of realizations.
The collection of the National Library "Ivan Vazov" - Plovdiv includes 84 projects of monumental decoration. The main authors are Ioan Leviev, Anastasia Kmetova, Dimitar Kirov and Encho Pironkov, while Ana Grebenarova, Kolyu Vitkovsky, Sabi Sabev, Georgi Boyadzhiev - the Elephant appear as co-authors. The objects of creativity are scattered all over Bulgaria. The geography of the purpose of the works is significant and speaks convincingly of the influence of the Plovdiv group of monumentalists in Bulgarian artistic life. The artists included are Ioan Leviev (28 projects), Anastasia Kmetova (19 projects), Dimitar Kirov (19 projects) and Encho Pironkov (14 projects). Co-authors of some of the works are Ana Grebenarova, Kolyu Vitkovsky, Sabi Sabev, Georgi Boyadzhiev.
On the territory of the Plovdiv National Library is one of the landmark examples of monumental and decorative art in the city. Driven by the idea of preserving this exceptional monumental work for future generations, the library initiated a restoration intervention before time could make a serious mark and damage it. Preceded by the restoration of five of the projects in the collection (in the period 2016-2018), the iconic mural panel based on motifs from Vaz's works ("Uncles" - art. Georgi Bozhilov-Slona, "Under the Yoke" and "The Servants of Slobogon" - art. John Leviev, "Epopeia of the Forgotten" - art. Hristo Stefanov, 1973-1974) was restored in its entirety in 2020.
