Concert by the violinist Pinchas Zukerman
Plovdiv welcomes for the first time the legendary violinist Pinchas Zukerman.
The concert is on October 29 as part of the "European Music Festival".
One of the most outstanding contemporary classical musicians, the violinist Pinchas Zukerman, will be visiting Plovdiv for the first time this fall as part of the "European Music Festival". The renowned performer will be soloist and conductor in a stylish Mozart program with the Classic FM Radio Orchestra. The event is part of the 20th jubilee season of the orchestra and is realized by "Canthus Firmus" with the financial support of the Municipality of Plovdiv and the National Fund "Culture" under the program "One Year Grant'21".
The concert is on October 29 at 19:00 at the Boris Hristov House of Culture, and the program includes favorite masterpieces of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Overture to the opera "The Marriage of Figaro", Violin Concerto No. 5 and Symphony No. 40 in G minor.

A day before the guest visit in Plovdiv, the musicians will also perform in the capital's "Bulgaria" hall, where the event from the "European Music Festival" is realized with the financial support of the Capital City Municipality - Calendar of Cultural Events of the City Council and the Ministry of Culture.
This is Pinchas Zukerman's fourth visit to Bulgaria at the invitation of Cantus Firmus (2006, 2008, 2014, 2022), but now for the first time Plovdiv music lovers will be able to hear the great musician live. His astonishing career spanned over five decades. A virtuoso violinist, violist, conductor, chamber musician and educator, he has won the admiration of audiences and critics alike with his impeccable musicianship, expressive lyricism and unique beauty of tone. His extensive discography of over 100 albums has been recognized with numerous awards, including two Grammy Awards and 21 nominations.
Pinchas Zukermanwas born in Tel Aviv in 1948 and initially studied at the Samuel Rubin Academy of Music. In 1962, during a visit to Israel, his talent was noticed by the famous musicians Isaac Stern and Pablo Casals. Subsequently, Zuckerman moved to the United States, where he entered the Juilliard School of Music and became a student of Isaac Stern and Ivan Galamian. He debuted in New York in 1963. Four years later, he won the "Leventrit" prize, together with the Korean violinist Kyung-Wah Chung. His debut recordings were made in 1969 with the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto conducted by Antal Dorati with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic. They marked the beginning of his successful recording career.
In 1970 Zuckerman turned to conducting, giving concerts with the English Chamber Orchestra. In the 1980s, he became music director of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, and from 1999 to 2015 he directed the orchestra of the National Arts Center of Canada (NACO) in Ottawa.
In addition to concert performances, Pinchas Zukerman devotes a lot of energy to teaching work. He has been Chair of the Special Performance Program at the Manhattan School of Music for over 25 years and has taught at renowned educational institutions in Great Britain, Israel, China, Canada, and more. His former students are Julian Rachlin, Guy Braunstein, Vivian Hagner, Jessica Linnebach and others.
In the fall of 2021, Pinchas Zukerman joins the Dallas Symphony Orchestra as Artistic Director and Chief Educational Advisor for the next two seasons.
Zuckerman is the recipient of the prestigious Medal of Arts Award presented to him by President Ronald Reagan, as well as the Isaac Stern Award for Artistic Achievement.
